Nike’s latest collection could be designed by the brand’s youngest partners to date. In tandem with OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the Swoosh launched its 18th annual Doernbecher Freestyle Program, a charity project that pairs Nike designers with young recovering patients at the facility. Swoosh-branded footwear and apparel reflect patients’ favorite objects and hobbies, with proceeds from the collection benefiting OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

The Doernbecher Freestyle event has been held for nearly two decades, engaging more than 100 young, patient designers and 236 Nike designers and developers of footwear, apparel and equipment, who dedicate their time, effort, passion and talent to this cause. The program has raised over $30 million for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, making it one of Nike’s most successful charitable projects. Last year’s Doernbecher Freestyle event featured 17 exclusive “What The” Air Jordan 1 sneakers made up of past patient designs. The first AJ1 sold from the collection raised over $2 million, with 100% of the proceeds going to the hospital.

Meet the creators — This year’s Doernbecher Freestyle program features the designs of seven patients, all of whom have worked with Nike to create custom sneakers, apparel and accessories. Each creation allows patients to tell their full story beyond their diagnosis, as evidenced by glow-in-the-dark details, macaroni and cheese shoes and butterfly-themed backpacks.

Cidni O’Brien, 16, focused on her love of football and animals when designing her Air Force 1 hat, backpack and sneakers. The latter features the names of loved ones in her life – including her mother Nikki and nine pets, including a chicken named Carol Bask-hen – alongside graphics of Cidni’s favorite food, pasta with shrimp.

Catalina Vazquez, also 16, designed her designs around the Galapagos Islands, using a tropical theme for a hoodie, backpack and Nike’s SB Zoom Stefan Janoski sneaker. Hand-drawn flowers reflect her love of nature, while a butterfly graphic represents her own metamorphosis. “I’ve been through a lot of changes, so I’m kind of like a butterfly,” she said. A DNA helix runs along the side of his sneaker, raising awareness of Von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome.

As an accomplished junior wheelchair tennis player – currently ranked No. 11 in the world – 15-year-old Maylee Phelps loaded up a NikeCourt Zoom Vapor Cage 4 hoodie, backpack and sneaker with things that made her motivate on the field. A marbled outsole and holographic detailing nods to Phelps’ love of baking and arts and crafts, while a midsole graphic reminds wearers to “keep pushing.” To help raise awareness for adaptive athletics, Maylee finished her shoe with a spine graphic on the tongue as well as blue spina bifida tape on the heel.

His brother Sam David Phelps, 14, was also born with spina bifida, but that hasn’t stopped him from playing (or watching) basketball. Sam was “speechless” when designing his LeBron 19 hoodie, pants and sneakers, citing James as his favorite athlete in the world. Phelps embellished the shoe with metallic gold panels, lighting bolts and his own sports wheelchair logo. The sneakers also feature Nike’s first-ever airbag, which features Sam’s initials, year of birth and favorite mantra: Never Back Down.

Eleven-year-old Michael Wilson credits part of his recovery to his late older brother Marshall, who was also diagnosed with Krabbe disease. With him in mind, Michael’s designs focus on “feeling happy” with graphics of airplanes, sharks and macaroni and cheese. A sweatshirt, t-shirt and Air Jordan 5 Retro Low sneakers all bear references to Michael’s passion for pilots, with “Take Flight” written across the shoe.

After battling sickle cell disease, 13-year-old Ayman Wamala identifies closely with powerful Anime characters and superheroes. His Nike Blazer Mid ’77 hoodie, hat and sneakers reflect his larger-than-life personality and acting talent, embodying Ayman’s alter-ego: a mysterious character who reads the minds you’ll find on the tongue of the shoe. Triangular shapes on the sneaker represent protective armor, while subtle tiger stripes glow blue under UV light.

While being treated for granulomatosis with polyangiitis at Doernbecher, 17-year-old Zoe Taaffe realized she wanted to bring positivity to the medical field by becoming a nurse. His optimism is reflected in his hoodie, backpack and Nike Dunk Low, which features the colors of his favorite team – the Oregon Ducks – and a zebra print. The pattern is a subtle nod to the stretch marks the steroid treatment has created on Zoe’s body.

A charitable cop — The unveiling of this year’s collection will take place during a live stream on February 25 at 9 p.m. ET, where viewers can meet the patient-designers and learn about their inspiration for each design. Participants may also choose to make donations to benefit the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

On February 26 at 7 p.m. ET, people can start bidding on patient-designed products on eBay, with the auction ending March 5 at 7 p.m. ET. All proceeds from sales will benefit patients and staff at OHSU Doernbecher to better support them throughout the current health crisis.

The market for limited-edition custom clothing and footwear has always been booming. Usually these unique items are developed in conjunction with the manufacturer, often in conjunction with the release of a particular video game or movie. CD Projekt RED has teamed up with Adidas for the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, Nike released a limited edition pair of Air Jordan 1s for 2020 League of Legends World Championship and PUMA designed Super Mario-themed sneakers in May 2021.

GAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

However, consumers no longer have to wait for companies to release officially licensed special editions of their products. A quick browse through Etsy or eBay will reveal all sorts of altered items for sale, from socks and beanies to shoes and handbags. Some creative fans have shown off their own personalized items on social media, and sometimes the results are as good as the official releases. A few months ago, an artist on Reddit shared a pair of Red Dead Redemption 2 Nike shoes they had been commissioned to paint, and even Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has a bespoke Xbox-themed snowboard.

UK company The Sole Supplier mainly works with other retailers to highlight themed shoe launches, but the company sometimes releases its own collections as well. The sole supplier recently shared a new collection of Nike sneakers inspired by retro toys, including a pair of Air Jordan 1s with a Nintendo Game Boy graphic. There’s also a pair of Furby-themed Air Jordan 1s, Tamagotchi-style Air Jordan 1 Mid sneakers, Air Force 1s with a colorful Rubik’s Cube theme, and a pair of the ovomorph-inspired Air Max 95s. Extraterrestrial franchise.

It is unknown if these shoes are officially authorized by Nike, although the manufacturer often collaborates with other companies to release themed shoes. The company released a pair of Nintendo 64-based Air Max 97s a few years ago, and Paul George designed a pair of PS5-themed sneakers in partnership with Nike and Sony in May 2021. In July of the same year, Xbox teamed up with Nike to release a space jam bundle that comes with a pair of LeBron 18 Low sneakers and a custom Xbox controller.

Nike often overlooks when a supplier customizes and resells their sneakers, but the company has been known to react strongly if a company goes overboard. In March 2021, Nike filed a lawsuit against MSCHF for trademark infringement when the art collective released a pair of modified Air Max 97s in partnership with rapper Lil Nas X. The ‘Satan Shoes’ were decorated with ‘a pentagram and had a drop of human blood in the soles, and outraged consumers called for a boycott Nike, even though the company had neither designed nor sold the shoes. This lawsuit was settled out of court and sales were halted.

Conventional Valentine’s Day gifts are often terribly fleeting. A gorgeous bouquet? Withered in a week. A box of chocolates? Gone in an hour. A pair of sneakers, though? We are talking about years. More, if worn very, very gently. Kindly. With love.

Fine. I will concede the point. Sneakers aren’t usually something you give on Valentine’s Day. Shoes aren’t a particularly romantic gift, unless they’re a glass slipper promising a life of royal nothingness – or you and your boo are swinging that way (no shame!). If the shoe fits! If the season calls!

And the season is shaping up, especially at Nike headquarters, where hero silhouettes like the AF1s and Dunk Lows are covered in love hearts, pastels and charms. Dior recalls Greek mythology with a dedication to Cupid, while Gucci goes to the letter with LOVE printed on the side of its iconic Ace silhouette. Don’t hit him with those kicks? There are always flowers. If you are boring.

All you need is some love (and some sneakers):

You are meant to fall in love with these Dior D-Connect sneakers. In fact, it is fatal. After all, this pair is dedicated to Eros, the Greek god of love (you might know him as Cupid; hence “Cupid”), a mischievous handy sniper with a bow and a magical arrow that strikes love at the heart of every target it hits. Aim very, very carefully at your sneaker-clad foot when stepping out in this pair.

Nike Air Force 1 Low

All dressed up for Valentine’s Day, Nike’s Gen-Z mainstay – the AF1 Lows – ditches fresh white for baby pink and pops of bright red. Run your fingers through the pair’s Swoosh and try to make out the words ‘Nike’ and ‘Love’ etched across the upper – and once again the sneakers swap out their signature deubré for beaded charms that express the same loving sentiment.

Nike Air Force 1 Low

Gucci's Valentine's Day Ace Sneakers

The product photo only shows one side of the shoe, but you get the idea. Spelling the word of the season, Gucci’s Ace sneakers ditch the web stripe for love; a red graffiti fire truck print on GG Supreme canvas, to be exact. Just in case the fiery laces and matching heel tab weren’t V-Day themed enough.

Gucci's Valentine's Day Ace Sneakers

Air Jordan 1 Mid

There’s no sneaker that says Valentine’s Day quite like these Air Jordan 1 Mids, with its loving homage to all pastel colors along the toe and quarter panels, complete with a trio of stamped roses on the heel. . Stop and smell! Or maybe not. Not when worn, at least.

Air Jordan 1 Mid

Nike Dunk Low

It’s Valentine’s Day. If there is a day for frills and frills, this is it. These Nike Dunk Lows up the ante with a darker (but still pink!) colorway in magenta and brown. A pretty line of ruffled tulle draws the Swooshes of the pair and gives it its nickname: the “Lingerie Dunks”. Thanks Twitter.

Dolce & Gabbana's Valentine's Day Portofino sneakers

Nothing like a personalized gift. It says you care. You listened. You have seen this, and thought of them. Already adorned with love doodles and Valentine’s Day-appropriate iconography, Dolce & Gabbana’s Portofino sneakers keep you talking. Specifically at the two heel counters, where you can leave a personalized message.

A few ideas: Your initials. A word that makes you both laugh. Your seed Wordle shared. However, make sure it is relatively short; the system will not allow words that overflow on the top.

Sneakers have become an essential part of our wardrobes, not only used for sports and fashion, but also for work wear.

But which states have the biggest collections, and what do our sneakers really say about who we are?

eBay surveyed more than 2,000 Americans to find out how we really feel about the sneakers we all wear, how many pairs we own, and what different brands and models can say about our personality.

15% of Americans judge someone by the sneakers they wear and the Nike Air Force 1 is the sneaker that makes the best first impression

A new survey from eBay reveals the sneakers that say the most about your personality, from confidence to creativity

Our favorite sneakers may contain more information about us than we think. In fact, a new eBay survey of 2,000 US respondents reveals that almost a quarter (24%) agree that the shoes someone wears can impact their first impression, color, cost, brand, material and style all play a part. .

Which sneakers say the most about you?

Sneakers are not just a type of footwear, they are also a way to express your style and convey your personality. In fact, one in five respondents (20%) admitted that the sneakers someone wears can define your character. Whether someone sees you as confident, alternative, or friendly, you can count on a quick look at your shoes.

But did you know that some sneakers say more about you than others?

From Nike Air Jordan 11 to adidas Samba, eBay’s survey collected perceptions of 33 of the most popular sneaker models to determine which ones have the most impact.

The three best sneakers that make a lasting positive impression:

  1. Nike Air Force 1

  2. adidas Superstar

  3. converse chuck taylor all star

Available in low, mid, super low, high and super high silhouettes, the Nike Air Force 1 was first released in 1982 and is one of the world’s most beloved sneakers of all time. With that in mind, it’s no surprise, then, that the study found that nearly one in 10 Americans (9%) think this sneaker is the one that defines their personality the most.

Men’s and women’s opinions of the most impactful sneaker differ, with men believing the Nike Air Jordan 1 reveals someone’s personality the most, while women say it’s the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star.

Sneakers are worn as a way to express themselves, with each brand and model indicating something slightly different. Participants assigned different personal traits – from confident to adventurous – to 33 different sneakers to determine which brands and models are most associated with each of these attributes.

Famously worn on the court by the legendary Michael Jordan since 1984, the Nike Air Jordan 1 has been associated with most personality traits. Nearly one in five respondents perceive people wearing this sneaker as stylish, while 16% of Americans rate people wearing the Nike Air Jordan 1 as confident.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star (commonly known as Converse All Star) also suggests several character types. Participants claimed to perceive those who wore these sneakers as the most down-to-earth, as well as the most alternative and adventurous.

City of residence also suggests how differently we perceive a pair of kicks. For someone based in Austin, the adidas Stan Smith are seen as the most stylish, while those in San Antonio find people wearing Nike Air Huarache down to earth. Adventurous and down-to-earth are two personality traits that Washingtonians consider people wearing a pair of Nike Air Foamposite.

Wearing the right shoes can be a real boost to your confidence, and while the Nike Air Jordan lineup triumphantly emerges as the ultimate sneaker to achieve just that, men see the Nike Air Jordan 5 as the biggest indicator of confidence, for example. compared to women opting for the classic Nike Air Jordan 1.

There are red-hued styles in this to-cop sneaker list, just in case you’re building a whole new Chinese New Year wardrobe.

We know you’re busy shopping for cuts in CNY, but you don’t want to miss all the sneakers releasing this week. Instead of Nike and Air Jordan, the most exciting shoe releases actually come from luxury brands like Balenciaga and Prada. The former unveiled an all-new silhouette that may well become the Triple S of the 2020s, while Prada and adidas are taking it back to the 80s with their minimal versions of the Forum sneakers.

Line up your shoe collection with these styles and more of our other favorites, which we highlight below.

This new smell of sneakers:

Adidas Forum 84 Low “Team Power Red”

When: Available now

Or: SSENSE

Like Michael Jordan, we are big fans of the Adidas Forum. If you haven’t picked up a pair of iconic basketball sneakers yet, now is your chance. Three Stripes unveiled the shoes in a simple yet striking colourway of red accents against white suede and leather overlays. The midsoles, meanwhile, come in a cream hue that nods to vintage trainers. Talk about timeless.

11 by Boris Bidjan Saberi x Salomon Bamba 2

When: Available now

Or: SSENSE

These aren’t exactly new – they’re part of the 11 by Boris Bidjan Saberi Spring/Summer 2021 collection – but they’re pretty hard to get your hands on. Fortunately, SSENSE has just restocked the German cult brand’s full range of shoes made in collaboration with Salomon, meaning these Bamba 2 beauties can finally be yours. The only problem is choosing between the high and low styles (see above), as well as the many colors available like purple, pink and blue-black. Each pair is crafted from mesh, leather and the much-loved GoreTex, plus they’re hand-dyed with BBS’ signature grungy technique. In other words, no two pairs are the same.

Balenciaga Phantom “Cities Series”

Balenciaga Phantom sneakers in faded pink

When: Available now

Or: Balenciaga, Farfetch

Is it still possible for Balenciaga to excite us with sneakers? The answer is an obvious yes, following the release by the luxury brand of its new Phantom silhouette. Unveiled as part of the Balenciaga Cities collection, the shoes resemble classic ’90s runners and come in a range of colors from faded gray to neon green and even pink (seen above). Buy yourself a pair before Kim and Ye make it nearly impossible to do so.

Prada x adidas Forum “Re-Nylon”

Prada x Adidas Forum

When: Available now

Or: Prada, Adidas

As part of their Re-Nylon collection, Prada and adidas release the iconic Forum sneakers in Prada’s signature recyclable nylon fabric. The limited-edition shoes will be available in high-top and low-top styles, with a choice of refreshing all-black and all-white colorways. We’d invest in a high-top pair like the one above, as these shoes resemble the adidas OG basketball silhouette while featuring a removable pouch that nods to Prada’s signature nylon bag. Complete the look with athleisure pieces from the rest of the collab.

New Balance 990v4 “Made in USA”

When: January 14

Or: TO FINISH. Clothes

Why waste a good thing? New Balance celebrates the 40th anniversary of its iconic 990 shoes with this new release. Offered in the classic all-grey colourway, the sneakers look a lot like the original 990s that Steve Jobs wore. They’ve also been crafted with premium mesh and suede, so they’ll be with you for another 40 years.

From Blumarine’s comeback in the spotlight to pop-punk invading our playlists, things are back and stronger than ever – and that could be good news for sneaker enthusiasts.

The early 2000s were an experimental period in the sneaker world in particular. Clean designs, wedges and mules reigned supreme, while classic silhouettes were reinvented with futuristic upgrades.

From the Vashtie x Air Jordan 2 to the Nike Air Max 95 Z, read on for five silhouettes we’d love to see return to the shelves.

Nike Air Max Craze

Designed by Martin Lotti in 2002, the Nike Air Max Craze was a revolutionary design. The sneaker / sandal hybrid marked Nike’s very first slingback, and with 2022 marking the silhouette’s 20th anniversary, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.

Teyana Taylor adidas GLC Promo “Harlem”

Teyana Taylor and adidas teamed up on this GLC copper promotion in 2013. With a high-rise construction similar to some of Jeremy Scott’s sneakers, could the shoe re-launch into a Teyana x Jeremy x adidas collaboration in the future?

Nike Air Max 95

In 2001, the Nike Air Max 95 Z received mixed reviews. With avant-garde designs experiencing a resurgence in popularity, the model would serve as the perfect canvas for a designer collaboration. We would like to see sacai or AMBUSH add their touch to the silhouette.

Vashtie Kola x Air Jordan 2

A versatile DJ, director and designer, Vashtie Kola was the first woman to have a collaboration with Air Jordan. The time has come for a return of the 2010 version given the rise in popularity of the AJ2 thanks to the collaborative models of OFF-WHITE ™ and UNION LOS ANGELES.

Nike Clogposite

Clogs and mules had a big year in 2021, thanks in part to Marni’s plush Fussbett, Fear of God California, and Salehe Bembury’s redesigned Crocs. The model hasn’t seen a release since 2014, making them quite expensive in the resale market.

In their mission to be one of AEW’s biggest heel groups, young Bucks Matt and Nick Jackson realized they could easily get under people’s skin by wrestling in rare and expensive sneakers.

The pair have struggled in some of the most coveted shoes in recent years, Nike Air Jordan Diors, Travis Scott Air Jordans and countless Nike SB Dunks, and as Complex on Sneaker Shopping has been told, ” the heat ”played a decisive role. in “win the heat”:

“We were turning on our heel. I told Nick, ”said Matt Jackson. “What’s the one thing we can do that pisses off so many people?” “I was obsessed with the [Dior Jordan 1s] since their release. I said, ‘What if we bought them and struggled with them?’ I knew it would be a big deal, but I didn’t know it would be as bad as it was. We came across something really unique. From that point on, for every pair of shoes we wore in the ring, we built a costume around them.

While not the first, the Bucks are arguably the most prominent sneakerheads who flex their collection during games and have claimed they made wrestling in expensive sneakers “on trend”;

“I feel like we made it a trend,” added Nick Jackson. “If you look on Instagram or Twitter or any social network, you’ll see wrestlers in sneakers, and that wasn’t a thing three or four years ago.” Matt Jackson then added, “Shane McMahon might have been the first to do it, but I don’t think all wrestlers copied him. So maybe Shane is the OG, but we’ve helped make it trending.

Shane McMahon wrestles prominently in Nike Air Jordans (usually Jordan 1s), while John Cena notably wore Reebok pumps during his “thuganomy doctor” days.

Aside from the Bucks, the only wrestlers who have ever worn rare air are Enzo Amore, who wrestled in the Nike SB Dunk “Ferris Bueller,” among others, and Kofi Kingston. But no one has gone as far or apparently spent as much as The Young Bucks.
