SALEM – Teutopolis High School easily handled Robinson by a 68-31 count to win the Class 2A Salem Girls Basketball Regional championship on Friday night.
The Wooden Shoes left no doubt that they would win the regional in the first quarter with a 23-6 run. In that push, Kaylee Niebrugge had four regular field goals for eight points while Isabella Hardiek hit a three-pointer, a regular field goal and two free throws for seven.
The Shoes pushed that lead to 48-15 at halftime. Zoe Cremens made a three-point bombardment, connecting three points for nine points. Emily Konkel hit a three-pointer and a regular field goal for five while Courtney Gibson hit a three-pointer.
Five players finished in double figures for the Shoes. Hardiek and Cremens scored 14 each while Kaitlyn Schumacher and NIerbrugge scored 12 each. Konkel finished with 10.
Hrdiek had 11 rebounds while NIebrugge had nine. Hardiek finished with three interceptions. Grace Tegeler had five assists while Konkel added four.
Teutopolis qualify for the Monticello section where the Shoes will face Paris at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Paris was a 63-36 winner over Clinton to claim the Clinton Regional. In the opening contest, Pana will face Marshall at 6 p.m. Pana defeated Tolono UOnity 59-29 to win the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond region while Marshall won his own region with a 45-30 victory over Fairfield.
The winners of those two games on Tuesday will advance to the championship game on Thursday at 7 p.m. for the right to advance to the Vandalia super section on Monday, February 28.
